Help

Before your first hello

A short guide to what Translator Phone can do today, where its limits are and how to get help.

Compatibility and limitations

Good to know before you start

  • Internet required

Recognition, translation and spoken output run online. Without Wi‑Fi or mobile data, translation is unavailable.

  • Translation takes a moment

The delay depends on the connection, sentence length and languages. Speak in complete sentences and wait for the translation.

  • Translations can be wrong

Double-check names, addresses, amounts, dates and agreements. At the doctor’s, with a notary, in court and in other high-stakes situations, use a professional interpreter.

  • Lecture is experimental

Omissions and errors may occur. Hebrew, Persian and Urdu are unavailable as the speaker’s language; Malay, Filipino, Persian and Icelandic are unavailable as a spoken target language.

  • SIM calls need the device

The smartphone app doesn’t translate cellular, WhatsApp or Telegram calls. On the device, operation depends on the SIM, carrier, network and VoLTE.

  • iPhone and device not yet available

The app is available on Google Play today. There is no iPhone version on the App Store yet, and the device exists as a prototype; release dates have not been announced.

Contact support
Do I need to buy the device to use Translator Phone?

No. Conversation, Lecture and internet calls work in the smartphone app. Translated SIM calls are being tested on a dedicated device that is not yet for sale.

Does the app translate regular calls, WhatsApp or Telegram?

No. The app translates internet calls inside Translator Phone. Translating regular cellular calls is being tested on the dedicated Translator Phone device. Calls in WhatsApp, Telegram and other apps are not translated.

What does the other person need?

One phone is enough for a face-to-face conversation. For an internet call, the other person needs the Translator Phone app, an account and internet access. For a SIM call from the device, they answer a regular call — there is nothing to install.

Does translation work offline?

No. Recognition, translation and spoken output are performed by online services, so you need Wi‑Fi or mobile data. Internet access must also remain available during a SIM call.

How fast and accurate is Translator Phone?

Speed depends on the connection, sentence length and languages: Conversation mode translates complete sentences, while Lecture mode translates segments of continuous speech with a noticeable delay. Automated translation can make mistakes, so double-check names, addresses, amounts and important agreements.

Which languages are supported?

29 languages, from English, Chinese and Spanish to Thai, Hindi and Icelandic. See the full list in the Languages section. Voices depend on the language; in Lecture mode, not every language is available as the speaker’s language or with spoken translation.

How much does translation cost?

Translation is paid with credits, bought as one-time packages in the app. The store shows the price in your currency before you buy. Usage depends on how much speech is recognized, text is translated and audio is spoken. The device, internet and carrier services are paid separately.

Can I use headphones?

Yes. You can listen to lecture translations on headphones and choose in settings which microphone records the talk: the phone’s or the headset’s.

Is my conversation history saved?

The current conversation stays on screen while the app is open. When the app restarts, the history is cleared.

Where can I get the iPhone version?

The iPhone version is being prepared for release and isn’t on the App Store yet. Email us and we’ll let you know when it’s out.

Can I buy the device?

Not yet: an engineering prototype exists and is in testing. Price and release date have not been set. Email us to hear about the release or tell us about your use case.

Can I create a new account?

For now, the Google Play version only lets you sign in to an existing account: creating new accounts is temporarily unavailable. Email us and we’ll let you know when sign-up is back.

How do I delete my account or manage a subscription?

Sign in to My account on translatorphone.net and open the Account tab to delete your account. Cancel any Apple or Google Play subscription separately in the store.
